Together in Community - A Collaborative Mural Painting Event

Join us for Together in Community: Mural Painting, a collaborative art initiative that invites all students, staff, and faculty to transform the DC Fishbowl into a canvas of creativity and connection! Guided by the theme of community, participants will each paint a hexagon tile that, when combined, forms a vibrant mural showcasing the diverse perspectives and voices that uplift our campus.

This project begins with a dedicated painting session open to all campus groups on Monday, October 20, 2025, with walk-ins welcome. Additionally, the event will also culminate into a Campus Painting Day on Thursday, November 20th, 2025, where the entire community (students, staff, faculty and beyond) is invited to contribute. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Together, we'll celebrate the strength of our campus community by creating something lasting, meaningful, and uniquely ours.

Yoga Nidra: Guided Relaxation for Better Sleep with Kimberley Luu

Enjoy some respite from your busy schedule with yoga nidra. Yoga nidra is a beautiful guided relaxation practice that can soothe stress and anxiety and help you sleep better. Unlike other forms of yoga, yoga nidra is typically practiced lying down in stillness. So, there’s nothing to do but lie back and enjoy!

Registration required. W3+ (Waterloo Womxn + Nonbinary Wednesdays) organizes events for womxn and nonbinary grad students, post-docs, staff, and faculty. The purpose of W3+ is to foster a social and support network among womxn and nonbinary members of the UW community.

In this online workshop, we’ll reframe the often-tedious process of cleaning data as an act of care: for your project, your collaborators and yourself. You’ll learn how to spot and fix common issues, streamline messy data sets, and create workflows that feel less like punishment and more like progress. Come for the skills, stay for the emotional catharsis.

We’ve all been there: a reviewer or supervisor asks for your analysis, and you realize you have no idea how you got those results. This workshop is a judgment-free zone for anyone who’s lost track of their own work, it happens!

We’ll explore why research reproducibility and replicability matter, what happens if it’s not, and how to detect unreliable research around you. This workshop will also explore tools and techniques to make your research reproducible—even if you’re starting from a pile of mystery scripts. Learn how to document, automate and share your workflows so future-you (and others) won’t be left in the dark.

Data Journeys: From Chaos to Clarity—Your Data Literacy Glow-Up

Data isn’t just for analysts—it’s for everyone. This workshop is your invitation to level up your data literacy, no matter your starting point or what you consider (or don’t consider) data. We’ll demystify key concepts like what even is data, what to do with it and how to begin interpreting it. This workshop will also show you how to ask better questions, spot red flags and make informed decisions. Think of it as a makeover for your brain—sparkly new skills included.

Ever opened a folder and felt like you were staring into an unknown abyss? This workshop is for anyone who’s battled chaotic data (any type!), cryptic file names and the haunting presence of “final_final_v3.docx.”

We’ll walk through practical strategies for naming, storing and structuring your data so you can find what you need—without crying. Whether you're working solo or collaborating across teams, this session will help you build habits that reduce confusion and increase efficiency.

Why do we avoid difficult conversations—or shy away from uncomfortable questions?

Many people at work avoid conversations about race, identity, harm, and systemic inequity—not because they don’t care, but because they’re afraid of saying the wrong thing, causing discomfort, or facing backlash. Yet real progress can’t happen if we can’t talk honestly.

Brave Space Conversations is an equity-rooted workshop designed to help individuals and teams move beyond silence and into meaningful dialogue. This session combines emotional insight, practical tools, and evidence-based strategies to help participants show up with confidence and compassion, even when the conversation is hard.
