Child Welfare & Resilience

Family

The FamilyPsycle Lab is partnering with a child welfare agency in Ontario to support Indigenous youth and youth who use substances who are involved with child welfare services.

Researchers from the FamilyPsycle Lab have been involved in the following projects:

  • Supporting the development of Theories of Change (ToC) for 30 organizations.
  • Creating drug protocols for cocaine, heroin, and marijuana use in response to drug-related deaths.
  • Creating a culturally appropriate audit tool for assessing the risk levels of Indigenous children and families, aligned with the principles of Truth and Reconciliation.

Ongoing projects include:

  • Conducting an internal audit of discharged Indigenous children to identify causes and correlates of discharge. The project’s goal is to identify gaps in services and support which has led to the discharge of Indigenous children. The project will involve informal interviews with Indigenous folks to learn about their perspectives, and to help guide the project through an Indigenous lens. The project also seeks to guide future child welfare policy and practice, to better promote the well-being of Indigenous children and families and better adhere to the principles of Truth and Reconciliation.
