Professor Jonathan Li, Past President of the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG) and Emeritus Professor with the Department Geography and Environmental Management, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Department of Systems Design Engineering at University of Waterloo, participated in the Samuel Gamble Award Ceremony during the XXV ISPRS Congress in Toronto.

The 2026 Samuel Gamble Award was presented to Professor Ayman Habib (Purdue University) and Professor Michael Ying Yang (University of Bath) in recognition of their outstanding contributions to photogrammetry, remote sensing, and spatial information science. The award ceremony was jointly conducted by ISPRS President Professor Lena Halounová and CIG Past President Professor Jonathan Li. Professor Habib accepted the award in person, while Professor Jan Boehm (University College London) accepted the award on behalf of Professor Yang, who was unable to attend the congress.

Sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG), the Samuel Gamble Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the development, organization, and professional advancement of photogrammetry, remote sensing, and spatial information sciences. Established in honour of former ISPRS President Dr. Samuel G. Gamble, the award reflects CIG's longstanding commitment to advancing excellence and international leadership within the geomatics profession.
