Research Interests

A safe autonomous driving requires to have an accurate detection of its road surroundings. Road surroundings, especially road guardrails are often complex and vary from place to place. Therefore, it’s crucial to make precise measurements in Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS). Unlike conventional field surveys, a mobile LiDAR system could collect large-scale and high-resolution MLS point clouds. My research interests focus on developing a new method to detect and extract road guardrails from the MLS point clouds to support autonomous driving. By using geographic information systems (GIS), the MLS point clouds can be transformed into a roadway inventory map. The collected data could provide advice on road guardrails maintenance and upgrade in order to improve road safety.
