Biography

Hasti Shwan is a professional engineer registered with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, boasting 13 years of experience across various engineering domains in both Canadian and international contexts. He serves as the co-founder of Geomount Inc., a company dedicated to geospatial applications and mapping services. His academic journey began with a master's thesis and research focus on remote sensing, GIS, and spatial analysis. Currently, Hasti is pursuing a PhD in Geomatics as a member of the Geospatial Intelligence and Mapping Lab, where he is expanding his expertise into artificial intelligence research under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Jonathan Li.

Research Interests

Hasti Shwan's research interests span a broad spectrum of geospatial subjects, aligning with his extensive background in remote sensing, GIS, spatial analysis, and related disciplines. His primary research thrust presently revolves around utilizing deep learning techniques for pavement crack analysis. Leveraging his engineering proficiency and machine learning acumen, he aims to enhance our comprehension of pavement conditions and optimize maintenance strategies.

Beyond his focus on pavement crack analysis, Hasti's professional journey is enriched by hands-on involvement in these domains, notably as a Pavement Engineer overseeing government road projects. With over a decade of experience in engineering project design, management, and coordination, he brings a pragmatic engineering perspective to his research pursuits.

Moreover, Hasti continually hones his programming skills, with a particular emphasis on Python, to bolster his capacity for handling geospatial data and effectively implementing deep learning models. His dedication extends to advancing his knowledge of LiDAR technology and geospatial data analysis techniques, further harnessing his expertise in remote sensing and GIS to contribute to the ongoing development of the field.
