This program was designed by members of the working group on sexual and gender diversity under the Provost's Advisory Committee on Equity (PACE), in collaboration with The Glow Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, is an education workshop (2.5 hours) and registration event (1 hour).
Participants learn more about gender identity/expression, sexual identity, homophobia, heterosexism, bi-phobia, transphobia and how these intersect with other identities.
Participants will also receive practical recommendations and support to enable them to serve and to support the UWaterloo community and be an ally for social equality and equity. Upon completion of the workshop, participants attend a registration event, and can determine if they wish to sign a statement of affirmation indicating their status as Space Makers. After confirmation of the satisfactory completion of training, participants will receive visual identifiers. Participants are encouraged to display various forms of the visible indicators (stickers/pins) that honour their completion of the program and communicate that they wish to be identified as Space Makers who are LGBTTQQIPA+ affirming.
We especially encourage the participation of people who provide services to students, staff and faculty at the University of Waterloo.
