IRCC has announced that the special measures for Iranian temporary residents in Canada, previously set to expire on February 28, 2025, have now been extended to February 28, 2026.
Iranian nationals with a valid temporary resident status in Canada may be eligible for the extended measures if:
- they arrived in Canada on or before February 28, 2025, and
- are applying for an open work permit, work permit extension, or an initial study permit
Applications submitted on or after March 1, 2025, will require standard application fees. The previous fee exemption will still be honoured for any applications received on or before February 28, 2025.
If applying for an open work permit under the newly extended measures, applicants will have to prove that they have enough money to pay for living expenses for themselves and any accompanying family members. Furthermore, open work permits issued under the extended measures will only be issued for a maximum of 2 years.
