On April 24, 2023, IRCC announced new immigration measures to support Sudanese temporary residents who are currently in Canada and may be unable to return home due to the rapidly deteriorating situation in their country.
IRCC has provided a further extension of the temporary measures introduced on April 30, 2023. The measures have now been extended until October 27, 2025.
During this time, Sudanese nationals in Canada are able to:
- Extend their current temporary resident status (study permit, work permit, or visitor record) and be exempt from paying application fees or biometrics fees
- Change their temporary resident status (for example, from a visitor to a worker)
Please note:
- If you fall under these temporary measures, you can apply for an additional open work permit while already holding a valid study permit as both permits can be held simultaneously
- Fee exemptions will not apply to Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or restoration of status applications
There are additional measures for overseas clients affected by the crisis in Sudan and for family members of Canadian citizens or permanent residents who have departed Sudan. For more information about all measures in place, please refer to the following IRCC webpage.
