Temporary immigration measures to support people affected by the crisis in Lebanon

Thursday, November 14, 2024

As a result of the ongoing conflict between the Government of Israel and Hezbollah, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced temporary measures to support Lebanese nationals already in Canada who are currently unable to return home.

Lebanese nationals already in Canada with a valid temporary resident status may now apply for a fee-exempt:

  • Open work permit
  • Study permit
  • Extension to their temporary resident status in Canada
  • Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) if they currently have a valid TRP and need to apply for a new one

Please note: if you already hold a valid study permit, you may also apply for an additional open work permit. Both statuses can be held concurrently.

In addition to these measures, IRCC has also established additional measures for Lebanese nationals who are immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents.  More information on these additional measures can be found on the official IRCC website.

These temporary measures will be in effect until July 31, 2025 or until they are revoked.
