On February 6, 2023, Türkiye and Syria suffered devastating earthquakes that killed thousands and damaged vital infrastructure. Canada offered humanitarian assistance to the survivors, who faced freezing temperatures and more tremors that hampered rescue efforts.
Recently, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced temporary special measures to support Syrian and Turkish nationals in Canada. These special measures start March 29, 2023 and have been extended until January 3, 2024.
Who is eligible?
- Syrian and Turkish temporary residents in Canada
- Syrian and Turkish nationals who applied for permanent residence outside of Canada
- Canadian citizens and permanent residents affected by the earthquakes in Syria and Türkiye
