Melani Samson
Melani is interested in waste management and understanding the anthropogenic influence on waterways and the surrounding watershed. She wants to find effective solutions to minimize negative human impacts while considering current and future economic, social, and environmental concerns.

Currently, Melani is working on narrowing the gap in the mass balance of nitrogen and phosphorus to match anthropogenic inputs and natural processes to monitored riverine exports for the Greater Toronto Area. She is especially interested in the unique features of urban areas and how they interact with the surrounding rural areas and are influenced by imports and exports. Once this is completed, Melani will further investigate the spatial trends corresponding to various components such as land use and wastewater treatment plants.
