Elaine Ho presenting to the UN
Elaine Ho, a 3rd year PhD Candidate and Lake Futures researcher, attended the High-level Political Forum at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from July 8-9, 2018.  On July 8, Elaine worked with the Women's Major Group (the UN's formal stakeholder group for women's interests globally) to review, edit and finalize factsheets, policy recommendations and priority speaking points related to Sustainable Development Goal 6 - clean water and sanitation for all.  On July 9, Elaine formally represented women around the world, sitting in the Women's Major Group's seat during the opening session of the General Assembly. Later that afternoon, she presented an intervention calling for accountability and public participation throughout the High-level Political Forum and other processes related to the implementation of Agenda 2030 (including the Sustainable Development Goals). Her intervention was presented during a side event co-hosted by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Major Groups and other Stakeholders (the collective title for civil society).

A recorded version of the side event can be found on the United Nations Web TV website (Elaine's presentation begins at 1:11:00). A PDF version of the intervention is also available.

Thank you to the University of Waterloo Faculty of Environment for making this trip possible.
