Lake Futures PI Nandita Basu highlights exciting research opportunities using new data sets that link remote sensing and water quality data.
Nandita Basu was interviewed for a recent EOS article, ‘AquaSat Gives Water Quality Researchers New Eyes in the Sky’. One major challenge in water quality research is the lack of data. The number of water bodies is enormous, and sampling capacity is limited.
To address this, researchers use models to investigate water quality questions. But the quality of these models is dependent upon their input data. New datasets like AquaSat, developed by researchers from Colorado State University, the University of North Carolina, and others, are exciting because they offer new opportunities for water quality modelling research.
