Xiao Hu

Prior to joining the University of Waterloo in July 2024, Dr. Xiao Hu was a Research Fellow at the Simons Institute in 2023 and a Visiting Faculty Scholar in the Discrete Algorithm Group at Google Research. Before that, she served as a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Computer Science at Duke University, where she was co-supervised by Professors Pankaj Agarwal and Jun Yang. Dr. Hu earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Technology from HKUST in 2019 under the guidance of Professor Ke Yi, and her Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from the School of Software at Tsinghua University in 2014.

Dr. Hu's research focuses on database theory and its applications to practical database systems. Her work includes areas such as massively parallel query processing, dynamic query processing, oblivious query processing, and the integration of machine learning in query optimization.
