Jinmeng Shi joined the QNC-MBE Lab in 2025 after receiving her BSc (Hons) in Materials and Nanosciences through a 2+2 joint program between the University of Waterloo and Beijing Jiaotong University. Before joining the QNC-MBE Lab, she participated in projects to enhance catalytic performance and explore graphene-based van der Waals heterostructures. Through her undergraduate studies and experiences, she developed a stronger interest in electronic and semiconductor materials, which motivated her to join the MBE lab and focus on III–V semiconductor nanomaterials. Her current research focuses on molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth and device fabrication for terahertz quantum cascade lasers (THz-QCLs), aiming to improve epitaxial quality to enable higher operating temperatures.
Outside the lab, Jinmeng enjoys music and sketching. She likes to stay active through skiing, hiking, and swimming. She is also very fond of animals and still misses her cat back home in China.
