Sarah Odinotski and Neil MacManus

Nanotechnology engineering student Sarah Odinotski has had a banner year! Her Capstone team won second place in this year’s competition for their design project, CortiSolve. The team went on to net a $10,000 award in this year’s Esch Pitch Competition. Sarah was also named Co-op Student of the Year for the Faculty of Engineering in 2021.

Sarah had a wide variety of co-op experiences during her years at the University of Waterloo. She was engaged in cancer research at the University Health Network and was involved in medical device design engineering at University of Waterloo’s Hearing lab. Sarah worked with Dr. Mahla Poudineh during her spring term to develop a hydrogel-based microneedle biosensor for PH measurement. She has leveraged her expertise garnered from her studies and experiences in the Nanotechnology Undergraduate Program to biomedical applications. Sarah says that during her co-op experiences she learned the crucial skill of translating technical research into accessible information that is easily communicated and understood. Congratulations to Sarah for all her accomplishments this year!
