NE Grads’ NERv Technologies Competes for Enactus Canada Entrepreneur Award

Friday, March 24, 2017

NE graduate and NERv Technologies Inc. co-founder Amr Abdelgawad will present his company to a panel of Canada’s business leaders at the Enactus Canada Student Entrepreneur Competition this May in Vancouver.

Amr is among twelve finalists vying for the top prize of $10,000 in the Enactus competition. It is the only one in Canada that focusses solely on full time Canadian post-secondary student entrepreneurs. Since 1997, the Enactus Canada Student Entrepreneur National Competition has celebrated the commitment and achievements of full time students enrolled in a Canadian university or college who are simultaneously operating their own businesses.

NERv is developing technology that Amr and fellow NE graduate and NERv co-founder Youssef Helwa created for their fourth year Capstone Design project in 2014 – biosensors that monitor a patient’s health after surgery. These implantable devices rely on many of the body’s biomarkers to instantly identify post-surgical complications, such as internal bleeding, bacterial infection and blood poisoning. A device placed in the body during surgery will be used during the recovery period, including the critical first 24 hours post-surgery, to collect information about the patient’s body and immediately send it wirelessly to the doctor who can use it to identify problems and resolve them quickly.

As an international non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action, Enactus challenges teams of outstanding students to transform lives and create a better future. The winning teams will advance to the prestigious Enactus World Cup to experience excellence in competition, collaboration and celebration.

All the best to Amr and Youssef as they prepare for this exciting competition!
