NE Grads’ NERv Technologies wins Enactus Canada Entrepreneur Award

Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Congratulation to Amr Abdelgawad, NE graduate and NERv Technologies Inc. co-founder, for winning the 2017 Enactus Canada Student Entrepreneur National Competition. With the win, Amr receives $10,000 and the title of 2017 Student Entrepreneur National Champion.

Enactus Canada is part of an international non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurialism. The Student Entrepreneur National Competition celebrates the commitment and achievements of full time students who operate their own businesses. It aims to enhance the success of those who are creating jobs and furthering investments in our economic future.

NERv Technologies is developing implantable biosensors that can monitor a patient’s health; detect post-surgical complications such as internal bleeding, bacterial infection and blood poisoning; and advise the patient’s doctor. Because the biosensors can detect even the smallest changes in a patient’s body, they can identify ‘silent’ problems early – so they can be addressed before causing serious complications. This will help patients, of course, but also their caretakers who will save time testing and following up with patients, as well as the healthcare institution that will benefit from increased patient turnaround and decreased post-operative care costs.
