NERv Technology raises $3.32 million in seed funding

Thursday, April 29, 2021

NERv Technology, a MedTech startup co-founded by Nanotechnology Engineering alumni Amr Abdelgawad (BASc 2016, Nanotechnology Engineering, MBET 2017) and Youssef Helwa (BASc 2015, Nanotechnology Engineering, MASc 2017, Electrical Engineering), has secured $3.32 CAD million in seed funding to support the launch of their smart catheter system that can enhance healthcare delivery by helping surgeons respond faster to potential post-surgical complications.

The Kitchener-Waterloo-based startup will use the money to help secure regulatory approval, complete clinical studies that began last year and establish a manufacturing line for its remote monitoring platform.

NERv’s platform sensing technology can actively monitor patient status, analyze what’s happening inside the patient and then reliably report the data to the surgeon. It augments existing wound drains and catheters, providing healthcare providers with information that can enhance the delivery of care by decreasing the surgeon’s response time to potential complications, making patient recovery easier and hopefully saving lives.
