SannTek Labs, a Kitchener-based startup that developed out of a 2018 Nanotechnology Engineering Capstone Design project, has just completed a successful round of seed financing that will inject $2.6 million into the company’s efforts to develop its cannabis-detecting breathalyzer.
The SannTek 315 breath testing device detects Delta-9 THC, which is the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. Not only can it determine if someone has smoked or ingested cannabis, but also if they have done so within the past 3-4 hours. The device is being designed to support efforts to maintain safety on the roads and in the workplace. With the seed money, SannTek Labs will begin deploying its devices for field tests in 2020.
