A one train pilot plant is located at the University of Waterloo. Its main components include a feed tank, inline coagulant addition, flocculation tanks, a sedimentation chamber with adjustable plate settlers, and filters. Several standard water quality parameters can be monitored on-line.
The flocculation and sedimentation units are constructed of a clear acrylic material that makes it easy to see what is occurring following treatment modifications. The plant is available for various research projects and is also used for teaching demonstrations and public displays.
