Personal Profile
Dr. Monica Tudorancea joined the NSERC Chair in Water Treatment in April 2011, coming from the University of Waterloo's Biology Department. She worked in the WATER Lab, oriented to the analysis of long term environmental records to address ecological issues (extraction, identification and quantification of plant pigments from paleo-sediments, phytoplankton, periphyton) and the Aquatic Toxicology Laboratory, where she worked on assessment of toxicity and isolation of estrogens released into rivers from municipal wastewater treatment plants. She also has experience with the detection of emerging contaminants in drinking water using HPLC-PDA, HPLC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, SPE, SPME.
Before moving to Canada in 2004, Monica worked as an Assistant Professor in Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She has a Ph.D. in Aquatic Ecology (Babes–Bolyai University) with her interests in population ecology, biomonitoring (chironomid larvae as potential bioindicators in rivers), macroinvertebrate ecology, and evaluation of anthropogenic impacts on freshwater ecosystems.
