How to transfer files

Users with UWATERLOO email account can transfer data from the OBEC share drive after they were set up by OBEC staff as a user in the following way:

Connecting

To connect to the file share from any Windows computer on campus or connected remotely via the UW VPN use the following procedure:

Windows

GUI
Right Click Start then File Explorer then click the This PC item in the left pane
Click the Computer Menu item then the Map a network drive submenu item
In the map a network drive dialog select drive R: and enter the following text in the Folder box
\\chefile\research\OBEC
Check the Reconnect at Sign-in box and check the Connect using different credentials then click Finish
When prompted for credentials enter Nexus\userid or userid@uwaterloo.ca then your Nexus/Watiam password

Linux

a. sudo apt-get install smbclient

b. sudo smbclient //chefile.uwaterloo.ca/research -U "nexus\watiam_userid%watiam_password"

c. cd OBEC/your_folder; prompt; recurse; mget your_measurement_folder

Android -
To connect to the file share from any Android device on campus or via the UW VPN

install ES file Explorer app from Play store
In ES File explorer swipe left to right to view side menu and select Network then LAN
In the LAN Dialog click the new button and enter the following in the Server dialog
Domain = Nexus
Server = chefile.uwaterloo.ca/research
Username = your Nexus ID
Password = your Nexus password
Click OK
