Who are Postdoc Engagement Liaisons?
Postdoc Engagement Liaisons are dedicated leaders and advocates for the postdoc community at the University of Waterloo. They bring forth and explore opportunities, events, and engagement ideas with other Postdoc Engagement Liaisons from across the university, and staff at Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) to improve the overall postdoc experience.
Postdoc Engagement Liaison positions
Available positions
GSPA strives to include representation from postdocs in all faculties, and bases position numbers on the proportion of postdocs employed within each faculty. The following Postdoc Engagement Liaison positions are currently available:
- Faculty of Arts: 1
- Faculty of Health: 1
- Faculty of Science: 2
General eligibility criteria
Liaisons must be current postdocs at the University of Waterloo.
Commitment and responsibilities
As a Postdoc Engagement Liaison, you will be expected to:
- Participate for a minimum of eight months (two terms) with the opportunity to be reappointed.
- Attend meetings for approximately 1.5 hours two times a term (one virtual and one in person). Lunch will be provided at the in-person meeting.
- Support the planning and organizing of events for postdocs.
- Attend at least one GSPA hosted postdoc event per term.
- Join the University of Waterloo Postdoc LinkedIn group to engage and network with other postdocs at least once a month (e.g., posting).
- Be a point of contact for other postdocs, specifically within the faculty, who have questions or ideas about postdoc engagement.
Overall, the time commitment of being a Postdoc Engagement Liaison is approximately ten hours per term; it is a volunteer position.
