President Hamdullahpur, Chancellor Watsa, thank supporters of the School of Accounting and Finance

The School of Accounting and Finance, one of ten Faculty schools at the University of Waterloo, held its  Annual Leadership Dinner on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the National Club in Toronto to recognize and thank key volunteers and donors for their support of the school.

"We need to make sure that policymakers and business leaders across the country know that Waterloo’s School of Accounting and Finance is a national treasure,” said Feridun Hamdullahpur, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Waterloo. "For our economy to thrive, financial institutions and businesses must maintain and honour the public trust. That is a vital role that accountants and financial professionals play, and it’s one of the many reasons why the University of Waterloo is so proud of our School of Accounting and Finance."

The evenings guests were addressed by the University of Waterloos chancellor, Prem Watsa, who is also the founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Fairfax Financial Holdings, one of Canadas premier financial services companies.

"Prem embodies the entrepreneurial, innovative, and risk-taking nature of the University of Waterloo perfectly,” said President Hamdullahpur. Being chancellor is a responsibility and role that Mr. Watsa fulfills with “distinction, and great benefit to the university,” he said.
