Faculty Gender Inclusion Workshop

Wednesday, April 26, 2023 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Gender Inclusion Faculty Workshop

What? You are invited to participate in an evidence-based workshop on gender inclusion in science, sponsored by our department’s EDI working group. This interactive session, designed by and for scientists, examines empirical findings related to stereotyping and bias, along with strategies for increasing inclusion. Topics include organizational values, diversity in teams, overcoming barriers, and promoting a broadly inclusive culture through allyship in research, hiring, and training.

Why? Fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion is an urgent institutional and societal priority. Unlike many commercial training initiatives (see Paluck, 2006, 2022), this session is data driven, with evidence of effectiveness from a rigorous longitudinal randomized controlled trial, including measurable positive impacts up to 18-20 months later.

Who? All UW psychology faculty members are encouraged to attend. Hilary Bergsieker, the UW EDI-R Office’s Program Area Lead for Psychology and Fellow of the Engendering Success in STEM (ESS) research consortium, will deliver this workshop, condensed and tailored for our department.

When? Wednesday, April 26th, 10am-12pm, followed by lunch (after winter classes end)

Where? On campus in HH 1108

How? To RSVP, please just accept the calendar invite (or email Hilaryhburbank@uwaterloo.ca). In April you will receive a quick registration form for dietary preferences and event logistics. Thanks!
