It is with great sadness that the University of Waterloo confirms the death of one of our students today.
The Waterloo Regional Police Service confirmed the death of the student at Mackenzie King Village, one of the residences on campus. We have contacted the parents to offer our sincere condolences and support services.
I’d like to thank everyone that responded to my request for applications to serve on the President’s Advisory Committee on Student Mental Health.
We received a large of number of applications for panel membership from across the UWaterloo community. This response affirms the passion in our community for developing and enhancing the mental health and wellness environment.
Many of you took time to share your own stories of experiences with mental health concerns, either personally, or through close friends and families.

July 1, 2017 was a momentous milestone at the University of Waterloo. We hosted over 60,000 colleagues, friends and neighbours at Columbia Fields on north campus to toast Canada’s official 150th anniversary. I would like to thank everyone involved in making this event such a success for the community.
This is to inform you that the Responsible Investing Working Group, constituted by the Board of Governors, is now in place and has held its first meeting. The terms of reference for the working group can be found via the link.
As Winter 2017 lectures end and you prepare for your exams, let me say on behalf of the University – well done.
As I traveled around campus and visited lectures across the University recently, I was struck time and again by the enthusiasm Waterloo students have for their studies and for this University. Just thinking about it keeps us all inspired.
2017 marks a significant year of celebration at the University of Waterloo.
As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the University and the 150thanniversary of Canada’s confederation, Celebration 2017 will leave a lasting legacy, designed by current students, to be enjoyed for generations to come; this initiative will embody the University of Waterloo’s image as a hub for innovation and celebrate Canada’s spirit of diversity and inclusion.
