Ray Darling has worked for over 35 years in higher education. He served as the University Registrar at the University of Windsor from 2023 to 2026, the University Registrar at the University of Guelph from 2017 to 2023, the University Registrar at the University of Waterloo from 2014 to 2017, and the University Registrar at Wilfrid Laurier University from 2007 to 2014. As a university administrator, he has provided oversight and strategic direction for domestic and international student recruitment and admissions, student financial aid, student billing, records and registration, and scheduling for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Ray provided leadership for the first ever strategic enrolment plans at three of the institutions he worked for. He also led Student Information System refresh projects at all three institutions, in Ellucian Colleague, Ellucian Banner, and PeopleSoft Campus Solutions. Ray led the creation of one-stop student services at all four universities. He also spent time as an acting Privacy Officer, Manager of Program Quality Assurance, as well as leadership on a program prioritization budget exercise.
While holding these administrative roles, Ray has conducted 12 external reviews for registrar's offices across Canada, has mentored several registrars, and served as Chair and President of Registrar’s Associations in Ontario. He also taught public administration for 10 years at two different universities. A former varsity athlete, Ray has coached competitive basketball.
Ray completed a Master of Arts in Political Science, following a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. He also completed the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers' (AACRAO) Strategic Enrolment Management 101 and Registrar 101 courses, as well as the Centre for Higher Education Research and Development Senior University Administrator’s course through the University of Manitoba.
