Changes in how Religion, Culture, and Spirituality courses meet breadth requirements
The Faculty of Arts is undergoing a change to the Arts Breadth Requirements. Starting in Fall 2025, Religious Studies (RS) courses will be changing to Religion, Culture, and Spirituality (RCS) courses, and will be changing categories within the Arts Breadth Requirements.
Prior to Fall 2025, RS courses were in the Humanities category, and beginning in Fall 2025, RCS courses will be in the Languages and Cultures category. However, it is the student’s Calendar year requirements that will determine the Arts Breadth category that an RS or RCS course can be used towards.
RS and/or RCS courses will count towards only one Arts Breadth category—the Humanities category, or the Languages and Cultures category, but not both.
For example:
- Students with a pre-Fall 2025 Calendar year: RS or RCS labelled courses will only count towards the Humanities category.
- Students with a Fall 2025 or later Calendar year: RS or RCS labelled courses will only count towards the Languages and Cultures category.
If students are unsure about how to navigate the Academic Calendar, or which calendar year requirements you are following, they should contact their academic advisor.
