Transferable Skills in the Canadian Workplace: Resume and Interview Skills is a 4-module micro-credential course that helps you build confidence in navigating the Canadian job market by developing essential job-readiness skills.  In the course, you will learn practical strategies for creating professional application documents and mastering interview techniques that meet Canadian employer expectations.

The course supports key workplace competencies such as communication, adaptability, and problem-solving—skills that are critical for success in today’s labour market. You will engage in hands-on activities, receive immediate feedback, and practice real-world scenarios. 

By the end of this micro-credential, you will have:

  • Interview strategies you can rely on. 
  • A clear plan for navigating job offers in the Canadian workplace. 

This course is ideal for newcomers to Canada and professionals seeking to refresh their job search strategies.

About the course (Resume and Interview Skills)

This professional development course is online, self-guided, and asynchronous, comprised of 4 modules focused on resume and interview skills development.

If you are looking to gain specific skills in a targeted area, you may choose to engage in individual modules that are most relevant to your goals.  

You will have 8 weeks of online access to the course materials based on the session you register for (see Upcoming Course Dates). All materials are delivered through Canvas, our online learning management system.

Each module contains a series of sub-topics. For each, you will read through the content and complete the accompanying Check your Understanding activity to reinforce learning.

Fees 

Tuition: $110.00 CAD (per participant) + HST

Withdrawal and Refund Policy (individual registrants) 

  • Students may withdraw from the course up until 11:59PM EST on the registration deadline for their session for a full tuition refund. After this date, refunds will not be issued. 

Requests to withdraw should be sent in writing over e-mail to renison.ce@uwaterloo.ca

How to register 

Registrations must be submitted through our student portal. Follow these steps to register for a continuing education course: 

  1. Visit the Transferable Skills page in portal. 
  2. Select ‘Details’ next to the course session you want to register for (if there are no course sessions listed, dates have not yet been confirmed for upcoming classes; please check back later). 
  3. Select ‘Add to Cart’; if you are not signed in to or signed up for an account, you will be prompted to do so now. 
  4. Once in your shopping cart, select ‘Checkout’.
