What programs does Community and Professional Education offer?

Community and Professional Education (CAPE) offers programs and courses in various areas of study including language, culture, and spirituality. CAPE's diverse catalogue of offerings, offered in partnership with various institutes and schools, include an option for all lifelong learners.

PLEASE NOTE: courses are not available for UW degree credit.

Language and Culture Learning Program 

With courses in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and American Sign Language, CAPE's language and culture learning program offers courses that cover a variety of topics including, but not limited to, basic to advanced language acquisition, Manga, calligraphy,  and much more. Indigenous Studies Program 

Participants are invited to explore the historical and current contexts of colonization in Canada. Whether discovering how to participate in the Reconciliation process or unraveling enduring myths. For further information, contact cape@uwaterloo.ca.

ACE-TESOL Certificate Program

The ACE-TESOL certificate at Renison University College is your way to get TESL Canada certified and gain the basic tools, strategies, skills, and knowledge to be successful as an English language teacher. For further information, contact cape@uwaterloo.ca.

Sakura Japanese Language School 

A program designed to educate children ages 4 - 10, the Sakura Japanese Language School focuses on developing children's ability in Japanese language and knowledge and awareness of Japanese culture. For further information, contact cape@uwaterloo.ca.

International Cooking Classes

Through once a month online cooking classes hosted by Renison's red-seal certified Head Chef, participants will explore the world by learning how to make various international dishes such as Jiaozi Chinese Pork Dumplings and Mulligatawny Chicken and Red Lentil Curry. Volunteer Management

This 12-module online, self-guided, and asynchronous course, Volunteer Management for the Not-for-Profit Sector, addresses key components of volunteer management practices, standards, and strategies that are in demand within the not-for-profit sector. For further information, contact cape@uwaterloo.ca.

English Language Programs

The English Language Institute (ELI) at Renison offers a variety of English language learning options from short-term summer cultural immersion experiences to essential soft skills in English to long-term academic preparation programs. For further information, please contact eli@uwaterloo.ca.

IELTS Testing Services

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a unique test designed to evaluate the language ability of candidates who would like to study or work where English is the required language for communication. Renison University College is a test venue for George Brown College; registration for the IELTS test is directly through George Brown College.
