A community-based approach to concussion reporting in youth girls' sport
Together with her co-applicants, Drs. Nick Reed and Jeff Caron, Dr. Pennock has secured funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The successful grant centres on a community-based approach to concussion reporting in youth girls' sport. The research begins in 2025 and will take place over a three-year period. Within this SSHRC-funded project, we will seek to continue to develop a comprehensive understanding of the barriers that exist within concussion reporting for youth athletes. In particular, this research centres the experiences of youth girls. Recognizing that they themselves are the experts of their own experiences within sport, we will work with them to develop, distribute and evaluate community-informed concussion reporting resources. While the initial stages of this work are under way, the bulk of the research will occur between fall 2025 and fall 2026. Check back for updates as we continue this exciting work!
