The Government of Canada announces funding to support critical research projects
By University RelationsUniversity of Waterloo researchers have been awarded more than $3.3 million to support research infrastructure and solutions to societal challenges through Canada Foundation for Innovation and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The announcement was shared by the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of National Revenue at the Université de Sherbrooke, on behalf of the Honourable François Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry and the Honourable Mark Holland, Minister of Health.
“I would like to congratulate the more than 35 University of Waterloo researchers who are receiving funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and Canada Foundation for Innovation,” says Charmaine Dean, vice-president, Research and International at the University of Waterloo. “This funding is a significant element of driving university research by supporting infrastructure along with the development of new knowledge in significant areas, including developing a personalizable robotic system for enhancing children’s emotion knowledge, the political power of public sector votes, and scalable biomanufacturing for a net-zero economy.”
The funding will support Waterloo researchers in transforming societies, economies, technologies, sustainability and health for humanity to thrive in our complex future.
Numerous Waterloo researchers received funding under the following grants and programs:

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
