New faculty member: Laura Mae Lindo

Laura Mae Lindo
The Department of Philosophy is thrilled to announce that Laura Mae Lindo will be joining us as a new faculty member!

Dr. Lindo is joining UW as part of the Black Faculty Cluster Hire. Her academic research focuses primarily on addressing social justice issues in educational settings, and she is the author of many articles on topics including anti-racist pedagogy and praxis, popular culture andpublic discourses on race in comedy, and the whiteness of the discipline of philosophy. Her book, Unthinkable Laughter; (Re)Imagining Anti-Racist Education, will be published by the University of Toronto press in 2023.

Dr. Lindo will be teaching courses in Philosophy and in the Gender and Social Justice program on the philosophy of education, philosophy and racial justice movements, and other topics. Her official start date is July 1, 2023, and this coming Fall term she will be teaching a graduate/undergraduate seminar on the philosophy of education.

Dr. Lindo is currently a Member of the Provincial Parliament for Kitchener Centre, and she worked previously as the Director of Diversity and Equity at Wilfrid Laurier University, where she also taught Women and Gender Studies, and in the Faculty of Arts.
