The Philosophy Department offers several major and minor undergraduate programs, a one-year MA program, and two four-year PhD programs: a PhD in Philosophy and a PhD in Applied Philosophy.
Our PhD in Applied Philosophy is a new program that focuses on engaging with and reflecting on real situations and problems. For more information, see our flyer.
Philosophers in our department value engagement with scholars in other fields such as the natural and social sciences, history, mathematics, and engineering. We find these interactions generate novel perspectives on philosophical problems and enrich our contributions to philosophical debate.
The main offices of the Department of Philosophy are located in Hagey Hall, rooms 319 and 320. Our friendly staff is always ready to help.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
