Workshop on Public philosophy: The Philosophical Café
Tomás Carneiro is the founder and organizer of the Café Filosófico public discussion group in Porto, Portugal, which has operated continuously for over a decade. He has built an institution that connects with public schools, professionals, casual discussants, and academic philosophers. It has led to spinoffs working with street-involved, incarcerated, and disabled persons, among others who cannot easily access university-based philosophical communities.
If you are interested in what a Philosophical Café is, what it takes to organize one, or how to moderate one, this is an opportunity to workshop the idea, ask questions, and share suggestions with an experienced and reflective practitioner of public philosophy.
