Abstract:
In response to the evolving landscape of statistical education and the growing integration of technology, our discussion aims to explore avenues for enhancing the teaching capabilities of R and RStudio. The primary goal is to generate a collaborative list of features and tools that could be integrated into these platforms to facilitate more effective and engaging statistical instruction.
Participants will identify specific needs and challenges in statistical education, which could include increasing statistical literacy or participation in large classrooms. Through facilitated discussions, attendees will share their experiences and insights regarding the use of R and RStudio in teaching statistics. They will then collectively generate a “wish list” of desired features that could address these needs and enhance the educational experience. This list will encompass a wide range of ideas, including but not limited to, curated datasets, interactive visualization tools and user-friendly functions.
We seek to elevate the conversation on how to use R and RStudio to meet the needs of both instructors and students. We envision this discussion as a first step; the next step involves inviting students to join the conversation and share what features they would like to see in these platforms.
