Engineering designs and decisions are often made “under uncertainty”; i.e., engineers do not have the time and/or money to obtain all the data of interest regarding the project. Probability concepts and statistics are used to quantify this “uncertainty” and hopefully reduce the “risk” in our design and decision-making. The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the basic concepts of probability and statistics. The specific topics covered by this course include:
- General Treatment of Data
- Probability
- Discrete Probability Distributions
- Continuous Probability Distributions
- Mathematical Expectation
- Statistical Estimation
- Hypothesis Testing
- Regression Analysis
