Maxime Cléroux
Max completed his B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2020. During his undergraduate studies he completed multiple structural engineering co-ops at Arup, Rivard Engineering, and RJC. He also conducted research with Dr. Kim and Dr. Daniel Lacroix, which led to his decision to pursue a Master’s degree.
Max started his M.A.Sc. in the spring of 2020 under the supervision of Drs. Kim and Lacroix. He is primarily interested in the field of mass timber and timber connection behavior and design. His research project focuses on the development of resilient timber connections using Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) bolts. As part of the research program, SMA bolted wood-steel-wood connections are being tested under cyclic loading and results are used to validate finite element models being developed. Residual strain, energy dissipation, and ductility of the connections will be evaluated and compared to traditional connections with steel bolts.
Away from school, Max enjoys travelling, reading, and playing baseball, squash, and tennis.
