Miguel received his BSc degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia at Medellín (2019). He is a current MASc student, working under the co-supervision of Dr. Eugene Kim and Dr. Trevor Hrynyk. During his undergraduate studies, Miguel investigated the effects of longitudinal stiffening on the buckling behavior of steel plate girders through numerical simulation. His current research is focused on the application of cost-effective Iron-based SMA composites for external shear-strengthening of reinforced concrete structures and involves both numerical modeling and experimental research activities.
His professional background includes designing engineering fall protection systems for existing structures and completing an internship in roadway infrastructure and urbanism projects, both of which took place in Colombia. Away from school, Miguel enjoys bicycling, playing handball and traveling.Miguel_tool_background
