Abstract:
This article is focused on examining the pilot testing of student design logs in a 3rd year Mechatronics design course at the University of Waterloo. The primary emphasis is placed on the enhanced learning experience of the students through the use of this tool. A brief case study describes observed benefits and learning associated with regular formative feedback on design logs, including technical report writing and student-instructor interaction. The potential for advancement of design logs in subsequent course offerings is discussed.
