What is WatSEF?

WatSEF stands for Waterloo Science Endowment Fund. This is a student-run organization that aims to enhance the learning environment for Waterloo Science students. Our goal is to ensure Waterloo students are exposed to the most recent and advanced laboratory equipment in Science, Optometry, and Pharmacy labs.

Where do WatSEF funds come from?

The student contribution is a $50.00 voluntary donation added to the tuition statement of full-time undergraduate Science, Optometry, and Pharmacy students. It is tax deductible and refundable.

Why do we need the Student Contribution?

The annual Science budget simply doesn’t have enough resources to meet all of the needs of Waterloo Science students. To improve or maintain the present quality of science education at Waterloo, we must use every available resource.

How can I have a say on how the money is used?

You can suggest the equipment that would improve student's experience in a particular lab, through the Suggest Equipment form. You should also attend the Funding Council meeting and vote on which equipment will be bought, and which project(s) will be funded. Funding Council meetings take place in the Fall, usually around October. Stay tuned as events will be posted on our website and Facebook page.

How can I become involved with WatSEF?

To become involved in WatSEF, you can apply to be a member of the Board of Directors. Application form and position responsibilities are found under Why join WatSEF?. You can also participate by attending funding council meetings. These occur annually in the Fall term. Watch the Facebook page for updates about when you can make your voice heard.
