Students compete against teams from around the world at the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Spring and Fall Conventions.

The Steel Bridge Design Team's focus is on designing, fabricating, and competing with a modular steel bridge at an annual international competition.

The UW Concrete Canoe Team designs, builds, and races a canoe made entirely of reinforced concrete for the annual Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition (CNCCC).

The Waterloo Toboggan Team (est. 1984) designs and builds a 5-person sled with steering, braking, suspension, and concrete skis, then races it against other universities in Canada's oldest and largest student engineering competition; the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR).
