Professor Tupling completed his PhD with Professor Howie Green at the University of Waterloo (Kinesiology), and a postdoctoral fellowship with Professor David MacLennan at the University of Toronto (Banting and Best Department of Medical Research).
Professor Tupling's research program, which is funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, is dedicated to the understanding of the regulation of sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) function in muscle and to understand how defects in the function of SR proteins contribute to fatigue, weakness and disease.
In 2009, Professor Tupling received an Early Research Award from the Government of Ontario to conduct research examining a potential link between SERCA pump energetics in muscle and metabolic disorders. In 2010, he won the Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision, which was established by the University of Waterloo to recognize exemplary faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in graduate student supervision.
