U.W.P.S. Crime Report– Weeks from Dec. 1st, 2014 to Jan. 5, 2015

Arrest made in Theft of Laptop:

UWPS officers conducted a follow up investigation into the theft of an Apple Mac Air Book laptop computer. The computer had originally been reported stolen by a UW student to UWPS on April 12, 2013 from a student lounge on the 3rd floor of the MC building.

On Dec. 10th 2014 at 2:30 pm UWPS officers located a male in possession of this laptop while in the DC library. The male, a 21 year old UW student, was arrested and has been charged with three offences in relation to the laptop:

  • one count Theft Under $5,000.00, One count of Possession of Property Obtained by                                      Crime Under $5,000.00 and Mischief to Data

The male will appear on Jan. 12, 2015 in Kitchener court

Thefts:

  • Bikes (4):

o   Between 8:15 p.m. Nov. 30th and 1:20 a.m., Dec 1st

     * Bike rack at E3 by Ring Road, cable lock cut

        · Men’s Schwinn Moab mountain bike, dark brown with a black and             red fanny pack attached to the seat

o   Between Nov. 25th and 12:50 p.m., Dec. 3rd

      * Bike rack outside St. Paul’s (front wheel left behind locked to rack)

         · Ladies Specialized mountain bike, 21-speed, green with orange                lettering

o   Between 12:10 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., Dec. 4th

       * Bike rack outside MC

          · Men’s Surley Cross Check, single speed, black, Studded Schwob                Marathon tires, square lab saddle, Silver fender, front and rear                 racks, nitto noodle handlebars, son generator hub and lumitec                  lights

o   Between 12:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 12th

       * From outside the front door of Unit #20 at CLV

          · Men’s Supercycle mountain bike, 21-speed, blue

  • Laptop(1):

o   Between 1:00 and 1:05 p.m., Dec. 11th    

     * from 3rd floor student study arear  at the School of Architecture                 (Cambridge Campus)

         · Apple Mac Book Air 15”

o   Suspect description: Male, Caucasian, middle aged, blonde hair, average height, large nose, wrinkles,  wearing dark pants, jacket and hat, possibly carrying a grocery bag

  • Cell Phone (1):

o   Between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m., Dec 1st h

     * 1st floor QNC

        · Apple IPhone 5S, black

  • Vacuum Cleaner:

         * At 12:47 on Dec. 8th

           * From corridor outside gym at REV

              · Industrial model S10, red, with “ED” written in marker on side

o   Suspects seen: two males and two females in winter clothing

False Fire Alarms:

o   At 1:54 p.m., Dec. 9th on 2nd floor common area in RCH

o   At 5:59 p.m., Dec. 16th at laundry room by hallway 119 at Eby Hall

  • In both instances UWPS officers and the Waterloo Fire Department responded to alarms at these locations. On both occasions the alarms were found to have been caused by someone falsely activating a pull station alarm.

UWPS wishes to remind the public that falsely activating a fire alarm is a criminal offence. There is a danger created for the fire departments and other emergency services personnel who respond in the belief there is a fire. When determined to be a false alarm it is recognized as a major inconvenience for the occupants of the buildings.  These incidents are rigorously investigated by police and where those responsible are identified they will be charged criminally.

Police encourage anyone that has information regarding a fire alarm being falsely activated to report to their Don or U.W.P.S.

Graffiti:

  • On Dec. 20th in south stairwell of DWE

o   “Bless the Lord, oh my soul” in blue marker

  • On Dec. 25th in the N/E stairwell in the basement of MC

o   “Jesus” written in marker

  • Dec. 26th on exterior wall on south side of V1

o   “ReACT” in black spray paint

  • Dec. 29th on exterior wall on west side of the REV south Quad

o   “ReACT KSR”
