Learning Innovation and Teaching Enhancement (LITE) Seed Grants: An opportunity for Staff to have a positive impact across disciplinary and organizational boundaries

Wednesday, April 9, 2025 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Session Description

The University of Waterloo's Learning Innovation and Teaching Enhancement (LITE) Seed Grants support small-scale teaching and learning investigations or activities aimed at developing instructional skills. These grants fund projects that explore innovative approaches to enhancing teaching and fostering deep student learning at Waterloo. Since 2012, recipients—both faculty and staff—have used LITE Seed Grant funding to explore a range of topics, including transcultural learning, Communities of Practice, mental health and well-being, as well as decolonization, Indigenization, inclusivity, equity, and anti-racism.

This panel will begin with an introduction to the LITE Seed Grant program, highlighting the roles that staff members can play in these grants. We will showcase the significant contributions that staff make to teaching and learning on campus, and demonstrate how participation in the program also supports their own professional development. We will hear from both past and current LITE Seed Grant recipients who represent a diverse range of staff contributions and profiles.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Be able to describe the purpose and scope of the LITE Seed Grant program;
  2. Determine whether the LITE Seed Grant program is aligned with their interests and their professional development goals;
  3. Explore strategies to embed teaching and learning research into their current staff role;
  4. Identify how to get started with a LITE Seed Grant proposal, find how they can team up with interested Faculty and Staff members and turn their ideas into action.
