Congratulations to Jeremy VanderDoes on his recent publication in the Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics.
The article titled "Integrating the CARD (Comfort Ask Relax Distract) system in a mass vaccination clinic to improve the experience of individuals during COVID-19 vaccination: a pre-post implementation study" is a collaborative work with Moses Tetui (Department of Epidemiology and Global Health, Umeå University, Sweden; School of Pharmacy, University of Waterloo), Kelly Grindrod (School of Pharmacy, University of Waterloo), Nancy Waite (School of Pharmacy, University of Waterloo), and Anna Taddio (Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto).
In this article, Jeremy applied the proportional odds models to investigate the effect of CARD on reducing pain and fear among patients during the admission of the COVID-19 vaccine in the Region of Waterloo. The roll-out of the vaccine at the time of the data collection causes imbalances within the sample. The disproportioned subgroups make it challenging to tease out the effect of CARD from the various factors. To address the problem, Jeremy applied the bootstrap technique.
This article highlights the importance of both statistical models and subject matter experts. Jeremy enjoyed the opportunity to learn more from such experts and offered the use of models to address seemingly inseparable variables. Together, their collaboration resulted substantial evidence to improve the vaccine experience for everyone.
