What we do

Health Initiatives is located within the Office of the Vice President, Research and International which drives Waterloo’s mission and supports its strategic plan. The primary objective of Health Initiatives is to support Waterloo’s goal to lead nationally and globally at the interface of health, society and technology, particularly through the development and dissemination of digital and virtual care tools.

Leadership

Advance Waterloo’s international leadership in the development, commercialization, and implementation of technologies at the interface between the physical sciences/engineering and medicine

Research and policy development

  • Support the implementation of an Innovation Arena focused on health technologies
  • Build an environment by leveraging existing research strengths in health and technology through infrastructure, investment, and talent
  • Support Waterloo’s institutional proposals to the Tri-Agencies
  • Communications support with regard to work in the intersection of health, technology and society at Waterloo

Engagement and cooperation

  • Invite centres and institutes, academic units, and partnerships on campus that support research on health to come together and collaborate to promote synergies and cooperation
  • Engage with local and community partners
  • Work with the Centre Bioengineering and Biotechnology (CBB) to achieve its vision of advancing interdisciplinary research across the university to address global challenges in human health
