The Office of the Vice President, Research and International plays an important role in driving the mission of the University and supporting its strategic plan. The Office aims to harness Waterloo’s disciplinary and interdisciplinary strengths to solve complex problems in society, nurture innovation and entrepreneurship in our communities, and drive internationalization and foster global connections.
Among other things, the Office is responsible for:
- Supporting award and grant applications, negotiating research agreements, and managing award funds
- Conducting ethics reviews, maintaining research integrity, and ensuring the responsible conduct of research
- Advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity in research and commercialization
- Safeguarding and protecting data, research, and intellectual property
- Assisting in technology transfer and commercialization of intellectual property
- Equipping and guiding founders to build successful companies
- Supporting interdisciplinary initiatives, including the University-level Centres and Institutes
- Building partnerships with industry, government, and the community, regionally and globally
- Advancing international relations, hosting delegations, promoting international agreements, and facilitating student exchanges.
- Ensuring the safety of Waterloo’s students, staff, and faculty when traveling abroad.
