How does Pen pal matching work?
Pen pal matching in the UWinterloo program is based on participants' interests and backgrounds, and after the matching process, we will email you your pen pal's information.
Will I be guaranteed a pen pal?
While we strive to match all participants with a pen pal, matching is not guaranteed. It will depend on the number of staff/faculty who sign up. Remember, you can opt out of the Pen Pal program anytime.
Is there a way to connect with other international students through this program?
If you're looking for a community of international students, we encourage you to join the International Peer Community (IPC).
I’m living outside of the Waterloo area, can I still participate?
Absolutely! Even if you're outside the Waterloo area, you can engage in the Pen Pal Initiative, receive our newsletter, and join our online community. However, please note that in-person events like the Mix and Mingle and care package distribution do require your presence in Waterloo.
